We believe in the angels

Believing in the angels is part of what every Muslim believes. It is one of the things our faith — our Iman — is built on.

Allah tells us that the believers believe in Allah, and in His angels, and in His books, and in His messengers (Qur’an 2:285).

What are the angels like?

Allah made everything from something. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ told us that Allah made the angels from light (Sahih Muslim 2996).

The angels are not like us. They do not get tired, and they never disobey Allah. They always do exactly what Allah tells them (Qur’an 66:6).

The angels have special jobs

Each angel has a job given by Allah. The greatest angel is Jibreel.

Allah chose Jibreel to carry His words to the prophets. Jibreel brought the Qur’an, Allah’s final book, to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (Qur’an 2:97).

Allah’s honoured servants

The angels are Allah’s honoured servants. They never speak before Allah, and they act only by His command (Qur’an 21:26–27).

So the angels are always near Allah, always busy, always obeying. Knowing about them helps us love and remember Allah even more.
