Activities

Five varied activities, each 15–30 minutes. Core lesson delivery stays ≤30 min; these run alongside or after as the engagement block.

Activity 1 — Look-and-Wonder Gallery Walk (20 min)

Type: Look-and-wonder discussion.
Materials: 5–6 large printed photos of wonders in nature (a huge tree, a galaxy/stars, an ocean, a tiny insect, a snowflake, a newborn animal); sticky notes; pencils.

  1. Place the photos around the room like a gallery (5 min set-up before lesson).
  2. In pairs, children walk to each photo. They whisper one "wonder question" it makes them think of (e.g. "How does it stay so big?"). They write or draw it on a sticky note and stick it by the photo (10 min).
  3. Gather on the carpet. Read out a few sticky notes. Lead the class to one big idea: all these wonderful things have a Maker. Muslims believe that Maker is Allah, the Creator (5 min).

Activity 2 — "One and Only" Sorting Game (15 min)

Type: Matching / true-false game reinforcing Tawhid.
Materials: Cards with simple statements; two labelled hoops or boxes: TRUE and NOT TRUE.

  1. Read each card aloud together. Example cards: "Allah is One" (TRUE); "There are many gods" (NOT TRUE); "Nothing is like Allah" (TRUE); "Allah made the sky and sea" (TRUE); "Allah was made by someone" (NOT TRUE).
  2. Children take turns. Each one places a card in the correct hoop and says why (10 min).
  3. Finish by saying the key sentence together: "Allah is One — there is nothing like Him." Link it to the word Tawhid (5 min).

(All card content is anchored to Qur'an 112:1–4.)

Activity 3 — Draw-and-Label: "Signs All Around Us" (25 min)

Type: Draw-and-label reflection.
Materials: A3 paper, colouring pencils, word bank (Creator, Sustainer, sign, wonder).

  1. Fold the paper into four boxes. In each box, children draw one thing in the world that makes them wonder (a tree, a star, an animal, rain) (15 min).
  2. Under each drawing, they write one label from the word bank or a short sentence, e.g. "Allah made this tree — He is the Creator." (7 min).
  3. A few children share one box with the class (3 min).

Activity 4 — "Beautiful Name" Mini-Poster: Ar-Rahman (20 min)

Type: Create / craft with a reflection.
Materials: Card, felt tips, glitter/collage bits (optional), a printed heart outline.

  1. Teach the name Ar-Rahman — the Most Merciful / Most Kind. Teach its close partner Ar-Raheem too (5 min). (Anchor: Qur'an 1:1–3.)
  2. Children make a small poster with the word Ar-Rahman and decorate it. Then they add one kind thing Allah gives us (food, family, sunshine) inside the heart (12 min).
  3. Quick share: "Because Allah is Ar-Rahman, I feel…" (3 min).

Activity 5 — Circle Reflection: "My Wonder, My Thank-You" (15 min)

Type: Short spoken reflection.
Materials: A soft object to pass round the circle (a "talking star").

  1. Sit in a circle. Pass the talking star. Whoever holds it finishes one sentence: "One wonderful thing Allah made is… and I feel thankful because…" (10 min).
  2. Close by saying the objectives out loud: Allah is One (Tawhid); He is the Creator and Sustainer; we know Him through the world and the Qur'an; one of His beautiful names is Ar-Rahman (5 min).

Engagement block total (Activities 1–5): about 95 minutes, run flexibly across sessions.
