The Last Day is part of our Iman

Believing in the Last Day is part of what every Muslim believes. Allah tells us that good people believe in Allah and in the Last Day, and in the angels, the Book, and the prophets (Qur'an 2:177). It is one of the things our Iman is built on.

This life is not the end

This world is like a short journey. Everything that lives will one day return to Allah. Allah tells us: to Allah we belong, and to Him we will return (Qur'an 2:156). After this life there is another life that lasts forever — the Akhirah.

Allah will bring everyone back

On the Last Day, Allah will bring every person back to life. Nothing is too hard for Allah, who made us the first time. Then every person will see what they did in this life. Allah says: whoever does even an atom's weight of good will see it, and whoever does even an atom's weight of bad will see it (Qur'an 99:7–8). Even the smallest good deed counts with Allah.

Allah is perfectly fair

On that Day, Allah will be perfectly fair to everyone. Allah says He will set up the scales of justice, so no one is treated unfairly, not even a tiny bit (Qur'an 21:47). People who believed and did good have the wonderful hope of Jannah — a beautiful home in Paradise that Allah has promised. This is why Muslims try to do good and stay away from wrong: not out of fear alone, but because we love Allah and hope to meet Him.

Let's remember

  • Believing in the Last Day is part of our Iman.
  • This life is not the end — everyone returns to Allah.
  • Allah will bring everyone back to life.
  • Even an atom's weight of good is counted, and Allah is perfectly fair.
