Lesson: Al-Ameen, the Trustworthy
A young man everyone could trust
As Muhammad ﷺ grew from a boy into a young man, everyone in Makkah noticed something special about him. He never told a lie. He never cheated anyone. He always kept his promises and did what he said he would do. People trusted him more than anyone else in the whole town. Even those who did not believe the same things he did knew that he was completely honest.
The special name — Al-Ameen
The people of Makkah loved him for being so honest and fair. So they gave him a beautiful nickname: Al-Ameen, which means “the trustworthy one”. A name like that is not easy to earn! You only get it when people watch you for years and see that you are always truthful. Muhammad ﷺ had earned the trust of a whole town, just by being honest and kind.
Keeping people's precious things safe
People trusted Al-Ameen so much that they would leave their most valuable things with him for safekeeping. If someone had something precious and did not want to lose it, they would say, “Let Muhammad ﷺ look after it.” They knew that whatever they gave him, they would get back safely, exactly as it was. Looking after something that belongs to someone else is called keeping a trust (amanah), and no one kept a trust better than Al-Ameen.
The wise answer — the Black Stone
One year, the people of Makkah decided to repair the Ka'bah, the special house of worship. When the work was nearly done, it was time to put the Black Stone back in its corner. But then the tribes began to argue! Each proud tribe wanted the great honour of lifting the Black Stone into place, and they nearly had a big fight about it.
At last they agreed: the next person to walk in would decide. And who walked in? It was Muhammad ﷺ! When they saw him, they were happy and said, “Here is Al-Ameen — we are pleased with his decision.” He thought carefully and found a wise, fair answer. He laid a cloth on the ground and placed the Black Stone in the middle. Then he asked a leader from each tribe to hold an edge of the cloth, and together they all lifted it up. That way, every tribe shared the honour, and no one felt left out. Then Muhammad ﷺ himself lifted the stone into its place. Everyone was happy, and the fight was stopped by his wisdom and fairness.
